Abstract
The research objective is the aspiration of the author to open the internal mechanism of self-regulation in the society, realized on the basis of strict observance of customary law. The social and philosophical analysis of activity of one of the people of the North Caucasus at stage of decomposition of the communal and patrimonial relations in the XVIII-XIX centuries, allowed to reveal specifics of institute of customary law as universal mechanism of regulation of behavior of individuals, their familiarizing to social and cultural experience of previous generations. The conclusion is drawn that the customary law in interaction with other social institutes acted as a backbone link and gave the chance to the Chechen society to function on the principles of self-organization, self-development and self-defense. The basis of customary law was made by the principles of morals.
