Overview of Diabetes Mellitus and its Treatment

In the 21st century, the chronic metabolic disorder diabetes is a fast growing global disease and it creates economic and health related problems. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is progressively recognized as a heterogeneous group of diseases and it is a deadly disease. The survey predicts that in 2015, there are 300 million of people suffering from this disease around the world. This predication number may increase up to 400 million in the coming decades due to the absence of a cure and improper way of care or treatment. An increase of population, lifestyle and obesity are the main reason for the growth of diabetes disease. This review discussed about the overview of the diabetes disease. It deals with the current management technique, insulin treatment and emerging therapies in ayurveda and allopathy for this disease. The types of diabetics such as Type 1 DM, Type 2 DM, gestational diabetes and prediabetes and its complications are reviewed. The real occurrence of diabetics must be extremely high and it is a dangerous disease. The unwanted long term consequences of this disease could be potentially avoidable. So, this review article concludes with the need of further management and development of better treatment required for the Metabolic Diabetes (DM) disease.
