Abstract
Information Systems are no longer viewed as a support but a strategic one. Companies are looking at Information Systems to find a way of improving the business. The same way companies are looking at information systems to improve their business, positions and roles within the company structure should reflect the importance of information systems. In that context, the CIO has a central role. This CIO position is not only important for private companies, the government has to appreciate and adopt the position as well. Governments have the highest adoption rate of information technology, for internal processes and for delivery of service to their citizens. This paper discusses in its entirety, the CIO (Chief Information Officer) position in the public and private sector in Botswana, “What are these sectors losing by not having the CIO position and in his absence who is handling his roles?”
