Abstract
This research was aimed at exploring the effectiveness of training the Shoenaker's self-encouragement based on the Adler's theory on cognitive emotion regulation strategies among the women-headed households, in the municipal district of Tehran. The research methodology was semi-experimentalwhich fell under pretest and posttest along with the control group. The statistical population included 18 women heading families who were selected through in-access volunteer sampling method. This number was randomly placed in two experimental and control groups. The experimental group was exposed to self-encouragement training for ten 120-minute sessions while the control group received no such training. The two groups, prior and after the educational intervention were appraised by the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ). Data collected were analyzed by the multivariate covariance analysis (MANCOVA). The findings acquired demonstrated that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups and this difference was seen in the privilege of the group trained. In the same way, training self-encouragement indicated a significant difference in using cognitive emotion regulation strategies between the two groups. It is concluded that training self-encouragement as a skill results in increasing the use of cognitive strategies of acceptance, positive refocusing, positive reassessment, and of taking views and reducing cognitive strategies of self-blame and rumination as well. Thus, for enabling the psychology and the cognitive emotion regulation of the households headed by women, this sort of training is advised along with other socioeconomic supports.
