The effectiveness of acceptance and commitment group therapy on autobiographical memory in non-clinical sample of depressed people

Abstract
Overgeneralization in autobiographical memories is one of the cognitive problems that depressed people are facing and cause of persistence and recurrence of depression. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment group therapy on autobiographical memory to improving the autobiographical memory. The research method was quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest with control group. The sample consisted of 10 people in the experimental group and the control group was 8. The experimental group for 8 sessions (per session 2 hours( manipulated with acceptance and commitment group therapy. The tools used in this study include Beck Depression Inventory and autobiographical memory test. The results of analysis of covariance showed increased scores in autobiographical memory and reduces reaction time in autobiographical memory in the test group. According to the research findings and offer theoretical explanations and relevant research, acceptance and commitment therapy as an effective treatment in autobiographical memory in depressed patients is recommended.
