Abstract
This paper examines the public sector adoption of the new technology of real-time electronic reverse auctions (e-RA) in construction procurement. Qualitative research was conducted to examine the experiences, opinions and attitudes of both buyers and suppliers to e-RA through semi-structured interviews. It was concluded that when certain principles and limitations are respected, e-RA can be used successfully for the acquisition of goods, services and works related to construction by public procurement. The knowledge gained through the research was transformed into recommendations to help buyers handle e-RA in the construction sector appropriately.
