Abstract

The article presents general characteristics of the composition and contents of documents from the personal archive of a famous historian of Ukrainian common art and architecture, a scientist and source studies expert, an enthusiast of museum affair S. A. Taranushenko. It covers the history of its acquisition in the fonds of the Institute of Manuscript of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine. Through the biographical background, the author analyzes a complex of materials on the history of Ukrainian common construction of both sacral and residential buildings. The paper presents methods of S. A. Taranushenko’s work on the composition of descriptions of the objects of Ukrainian common architecture, in particular, the work sheets developed by S. A. Taranushenko himself, necessary measurements, photographs, complexes of drawings, studies of archival documents, analysis of social and material prerequisites for construction, etc. In the aspect of the topic of the research, the activity of S. A. Taranushenko as a museum researcher is reviewed. Main works of S. A. Taranushenko on the history of common architecture deposited in the Institute of Manuscript of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, in particular his last monograph of 1976 “Monumental Architecture of Left-Bank Ukraine” and working materials for it, which illustrate the researcher’s creative process, are announced.
