Abstract
Concrete is a composite material composed of fine and coarse aggregate bonded together with fluid cement that hardens over time. In the present study an experimental programme was carried out for comparison of manual (Hand) and mechanical compaction of concrete. Specimens of concrete of different proportions (1:2:4, 1:1.5:3 and 1:1.25:2.5) at different water cement ratio (0.46 and 0.48) was prepared. The concrete so prepared was tested for density in green state and for compressive strength in hardened state after 7 and 28 days of moist curing. It is observed that compressive strength and density of mechanically compacted concrete is more than that of manually compacted.
