Abstract

The fibres can be grouped into (i) natural fibres such as bamboo, jute, cellulose etc and (ii) synthetic fibres such as glass, carbon, steel etc. The properties of the FRC depend on the fibre material, its geometry, shape, etc of the fibres selected. The mechanical properties of the fibres such as tensile strength, modulus of elasticity etc are also important to get a good composite. Natural fibres are widely used nowadays due to increasing environmental issues. They possess high strength and stiffness. It also has some good advantages over synthetic fibres such as low density, low cost, biodegradability, renewability. But, the mechanical properties of the natural fibre composites are lower than that of synthetic fibre. The basic problem with the natural fibre reinforced composite is the poor interfacial adhesion. In contrast to this, synthetic fibres have good mechanical properties, moisture repellence. But it is costly
