Abstract

Utilization of waste plastic as an added material on asphalt concrete mixture has been used firstly in road construction in Vancouver City, Canada. Government and citizens of this city want to make a city that respects the environment by the year off 2020 by reducing the level of environmental pollution by utilizing plastic waste into plastic asphalt. In Indonesia, the addition of plastics (polymers) into asphalt has been studied by several researchers, among others by Asrar YD (2007) [5], concluding that the results of marshall test of asphalt concrete mixture containing plastics showed that adding plastic content up to 3% on asphalt improves the stability, volume weight, compacted aggregate density (CAD) and Marshall Quotient of HRA mixture. Furthermore, it was mentioned that generally the research showed that the addition of 2% - 3% plastic content on asphalt gave a good effect on mixed characteristics. Further research conducted by Zulfani Ar (2012) [15], showed that plastic substitution of asphalt penetration of 60/70 can save 2.5% usage / asphalt usage on asphalt weight used in AC-WC concrete asphalt mixture, and added that addition Plastic increases stability and VFB values, decreases flow value, decreases VIM value and VMA value. Faisal Ahda Safril (2010) [1] with the conclusion of his research that the utilization of plastic waste with the content of 2%, 3% and 4% on the asphaltconcrete mixture produces asphalt concrete mixture which has too high air void level.Asphalt concrete is a pavement material consisting of coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, filler, and low penetration asphalt and anti-striping additives. Material requirements have been set in the General Spesification for Roadwork 2010 Rev. 2012 (Ditjen Bina Marga, 2012) [6]. Based on the material composition, aggregate size and quality requirements are determined, the concrete asphalt mixture (AC) is distinguished over ACWC, AC-BC, and AC-BASE.
