Abstract
Surface water distribution being limited to rivers, lakes and the like, structures for other types of storage and transmission of this water need large financial inputs and engineering capabilities. Also surface waters are subject to evaporation loses and susceptible to easy contamination. Groundwater is relatively free from these disadvantages. It is advisable to augment surface resources with groundwater in view of its wider availability and scope for utilization as and where required. At the same time groundwater is a commodity which has to be sought for since its occurrence and distribution are confined to favorable geological formations and conditions. Thus exploration for groundwater is necessary to locate suitable sites or areas for extraction of groundwater and to determine whether the required quantities of groundwater are available. Geophysical investigations for solving Hydrogeological problems assumed greater significance all over the world, but is yet to attain importance in the Indian sub-continent. In this context, VLF-EM (Very Low Frequency Electromagnetic) and Electrical Resistivity Methods are used for site investigation for extraction of groundwater at Bhimaram Village through In Acres India Pvt. Ltd. (Dr. Muralidhar Acharya, Principal Scientist and Sri K. Srinivas Rao, Principal Executive Director and President, All India Sandalwood Growers Association (INDIA))
