Abstract
Alkaline batteries share more than 60 percent of total volume throughout the world and these wastes are disposed along with municipal solid waste. This is not an ecofriendly practice and criticized in this paper. Models suggested by the researches to quantify the wastes have been explored and applicability has been critically analyzed. Based on these critical reviews, environmental instruments that can have the potential for higher collection and recycling rates have been investigated through this paper
