Abstract
Listening is seen as the one of basic skills in the discipline of language teaching. Developing listening skill is different from fields of teaching mother language, second language and foreign language. For this reason, terms towards listening skill can be changed. Terms of bottom up and top-down processing are the subject of studies related with teaching listening in second language learning. These terms has not been added to agenda of the field of teaching Turkish as a second language which is popular in the last period yet. In fact, the listening skill in teaching Turkish as a second language as teaching it as a first language has been rarely studied, and studies related this skill remained limited. For this reason, some terms such as bottom up and top-down processing have to be added to agenda of teaching Turkish as a second language, and they have to be subject to further debates. In this study, bottom up and top-down processing in teaching Turkish as a second language was outlined, and a theoretical overview was given with the purpose of filling gaps in the literature of teaching Turkish as a second language, and introducing new terms.
