Abstract
Predicting of the river discharge was important for convenient water resources planning, and management especially in warm and dry region. This study presented the application of Gene Expression Programming (GEP) for predicting the monthly average discharge of Euphrates River in Nasiriyah city, south of Iraq, the overall strategy of this study is to constructed and development three model for forecasted the monthly average discharge based on antecedent discharge values. Three statistical parameters (Rot Man Square Error (RME); Man Absolutes Errors (MAE); and Coefficients of Correlation (R)) were used to evaluation the prerformance of these model; the statistical parameters illustrated: that the forecasting, discharge was high influence-by the antecedent input water discharge values. The results showed that GEP is a powerful and efficient technique to predict the monthly average discharge in an arid region.
