Abstract
The current work primarily address the combustion progression parameters in a typical spark ignited engine under naturally aspirated and turbocharged after cooled configuration at varying spark time and it focuses on calculating the engine parameters like Pressure, Temperature, Power using Ansys Fluent 16.0 CFD software. The C-equation combustion model which helps in describing the combustion process in terms of single transport equation for progress variable and with 3-D Reynolds Averaged Navier-stokes code coupled with additional governing equations for enthalpy and turbulence. A flat cylinder head and bowl in piston is used for combustion simulation of the engine. CFD analysis has been carried out for simulation of one complete cycle of the engine with different Spark timing and the trends in the variation of Pressure, Temperature were plotted and Contour plots for several discreet Crank Angles were plotted. Variation of the Spark timing resulted in varied Power and Net Indicated Work, based on the maximum Power output delivered by the engine the optimum Spark time was decided. The results of the CFD analysis were found to be in good agreement with experimentally estimated values.
