Abstract
Industrial sewage management is a serious issue in most of the cities in developing countries. Though many physico – chemical techniques have been set up, they seem to be expensive and laborious. Hence, it is necessary to find a simple low cost - effective treatment method for removing the pollutants in the water. In the present study, an investigation is conducted on dry water hyacinth and its biosorption property on wastewater. Change in industrial sewage characteristics like COD, BOD, DO, pH and turbidity on addition of powdered dry water hyacinth parts namely root, stem and leaves at different dosages and maintaining distinct contact time has been observed. This study revealed that the root powder of water hyacinth with a dosage of 1.5 g/l and at a contact time of 30 min is effective in bringing the wastewater parameters into permissible range.
