Effects of Integrating ICT’S in Grammar Course for Algerian EFL Students

Abstract

With the emergence of new technologies, in almost all aspects of life, including education, new teaching approaches, methods, and materials were adapted and adopted in EFL contexts. A wide range of technological devices and software were developed to fulfill students' language needs and requirements as the use of the internet in teaching different language skills. The present research work aims at investigating the attitudes of EFL second year university students towards grammar tasks and its accomplishment through the use of ICTs. Questionnaires were given to EFL undergraduate students and interviews were administered to English grammar teachers at the University of Tlemcen to delve information concerning their view regarding grammar tasks as well as their opinion regarding the use of ICT's to learn/teach grammar. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the research instrument highlighted that the use of ICT is of a great importance in enhancing students' achievements as well as encouraging them to accomplish their tasks with no pressure in the classroom and at home. From the results obtained, it was recommended to raise teachers' awareness concerning the positive impact of using ICT's on their students' attitudes towards learning English. In addition, it is important to train both teachers and students to develop their technological skills that permit them to use ICTs at ease.
