Abstract

In the given article the author makes an attempt to reveal the sign character of English anthroponyms. The result of the research is the classification of anthroponymic mass of lexical units into 3 classes: 1. the class of names with natural features with denotative-significative type of meaning; 2. the class of names with acquired characteristics with significative-denotative component of meaning; 3. nominal classes of words with significative type of meaning.
