Abstract

Oppres s ion is rightly defined as an unfair and cruel treatment by a powerful pers on or group or government towards the powerles s individual or group or minority who always becomes the victims of tyranny of the ‘ma jority’ in the s hape of marginalis ation which is wors e than other forms of oppres s ion like e xp loitation, violence, cultural imperialis m, s ocial injus tice etc. It is a kind of attack on the fundamental rights of the human beings to live the life in free and fair amb ience with dignity and pride. Bes ides , the cons tant exercis e of oppres s ion widens the gap between the ‘haves ’ and ‘have-nots ’ which forces the minority to give up or repress their drea ms for ‘bright future’ in abs ence of the education, emp loyment, equality, s ens e of security, protection agains t explo itation and freedom to s hape the life. F inally it res ults into the feeling of hatred and dis gust for the s uperiors or authorities who ind irectly ta ke away the freedom of individual(s ) to s hape their own lives according to t heir wis h. The prevailing problem of ma rginalis ation rais es ques tions about our efforts to mit igate the socio -politica l barrier to elevate the ‘minorities ’ or ‘oppres s ed’ to the main s tream of the s ociety. The so-called efforts and their s incerity a re aptly depicted in contemporary Canadian author-Ne il Bis s oondath’s novel titled The Unyielding Clamour of the Night (2005) a long with other types of oppress ion- s ocial, politica l, cultura l, ins titutional, individual behavioural etc. in the present context of ‘dias pora’ in which the ‘migrants ’ have to adjus t with the s ituation rather than being idealis tic, for getting the s uccess
