Abstract
This document presents an optimal control method (PI-PSO) to extract the reference compensation currents to SAPF under balanced voltage conditions, which is applied to eliminate harmonics of line current. Two different control methods for SAPF have been proposed based on the Proportional-Integral (PI) controller and the intelligent PI controller with PSO. The identification theory based on the indirect current control technique is used to generate or establish suitable current reference signals. The results of the simulation show that the new control method that uses the PSO approach is not only easy to implement but also very effective in reducing unwanted harmonics. The studies have been implemented using MATLAB / Simulink Toolbox.
