Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to find out the durability properties of concrete using M-sand and Basalt Fibre. This paper presents the art of knowledge of basalt fibre, which is a relatively new material. Basalt fibre is a highly performing non-metallic fibre, which made from melted basalt rock in a high temperature. It is economical and having good strength characteristics and also resists against temperature, alkaline envionment. In this research 12mm length basalt fibre was used within the range of 0.1% to 0.3%with total volume of concrete. Due to lack of river sand, it is partially replaced with M-sand by 50%and 60% in this research. The Rapid Chloride Permeability Test and water absorption test were conducted. It reveals the water absorption and chloride ion penetration of concrete using basalt fibre and M-sand. Conplast Sp430 was used to increase the workability of concrete and it reduces the water demand. It will also enhance the strength of the concrete.
