Tuberculosis (TB) is still the world's second deadliest infectious disease killing 1.5 million people and with an estimated 9.6 million new cases reported to the WHO in 2015. One-third of the world's population has been exposed to TB. 5-10% of these latent carriers will eventually develop the active disease.
