Abstract
Rail joints are use for the purpose of joining the two rails. Traditionally it was done by using bolted rail joint but due to large number of drawbacks and for safety purpose the number of joints in mainline track has been minimized by the widespread use of continuously welded rail CWR but for the track circuit there is no alternative for insulated rail joint. Insulated rail joint is use for signaling purpose to allow a railway signaling system to locate trains by maintaining a shorting circuits system. The IRJ is however substantially weaker than the rail and so is subjected to large stresses causing failure. This paper is concern with to find the fatigue life of joint bar of IRJ and to suggest the proper profile design which will help to improve its fatigue life.
