Abstract

Education helps a child become a useful and a responsible member of the society. It is regarded as the a greatest force in for the development of a nation economically, socially and culturally. Therefore, all citizens of a nation must have at least basic education to gain functional knowledge, skill to perform citizen's responsibilities as a citizen of the democratic country. In the context of school education in Nepal, most of the students fail or achieve a low score in mathematics that creates the barrier for the further study. The present study attempts to find out the basic causes and factors that create the low achievement in mathematics in students of grade IX and X. The researcher himself went to the field and consulted to the sample population. He based his research on achievement test and found that the low achievement in mathematics in grade IX and X is alarming. The girls, the students from rural areas and family with low income have worse result in mathematics.
