Contemplating Structural Aesthetics

“ARCHITECTURE” can be classified with an assortment of „movements‟, each of which emerged like pendulum swing from one period to another. Architectural movements were defined in relation to human interaction, but behind the scenes it was also a relation of domains like engineering and architecture.An apathy towards structure which lies at the core of any built form, has lead to a „TREND‟ of applying layers to the buildings externally and internally to define its aesthetic quality which in fact is false and just an envelope to it. The early evolution era of built form experienced the sense of „INHERENT AESTHETICS‟ through their understanding and application of structural systems.The need arises to revamp the idea of PURITY in structures to improve in terms of ecological concerns, economy, inheritance and innovations. Present day professionals frenziedly follow the TREND in mass , restricting their innovative approach due to underestimation of structure as an aesthetic attribute to the building. Hereby an attempt is made to understand the terms like AESTHETICS in depth before it application in various different fields. An inferential study of views from professionals from allied fields could suggest and promote the liberty of using structures as an aesthetic component even in the present day scenario and emphasise on bringing purity to our buildings today. This in turn would help revamp the reader‟s idea of using structural aesthetics as a design attribute.
