Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of Scotland's secession from the UK, which rose at the referendum in 2014. The causes, relevance and course of this event are also considered. The central focus is on the reasons for the referendum, its results for both the UK and the world community, the possibility of influencing the people's decision on the political situation in the world. In the article the historical and politological approaches are used. The events connected with the emergence of the idea of the referendum on the independence of Scotland. The positions of key political players and the population on each historical piece are considered in the article. The central place in the research is taken by the concept of cultural and territorial differentiations thanks to which the interrelation of cultural development of territories and a political choice of the population is obvious. The peculiarities of Scottish problems, which they found on the way to independence, were determined. The arguments that led citizens to vote for one or another result are picted. Due to these facts, you can penetrate the atmosphere that prevailed in the society at that time. The referendum was multivectoral in the European dimension, since it had a reputable influence on different states in the continental space.
