Abstract
Evidence shows that in terms of participation of male and female in the economy, education, employment, politics and many other areas of human life, the relative position of women has remained much below their male counterparts. The position of women varies in different socio-cultural situations. There are many reasons for this situation, and historically, the position of women remains still subservient to men. This paper examines such situations and highlights the issues which have remained intractable so far. The paper highlights certain areas of employment and education in which women's participation has been very low as compared to their male counterparts. It suggests some broad policy measures and concludes that even in designing and formulating policy and programmes women's involvement is very necessary.
