Abstract
The research is conducted to identify the key competencies required for the Information Technology professionals working in Indian IT companies located in Chennai. The competencies used for the study were based on the following key areas such as Personal competencies, Technical Competency, Knowledge level competencies, Job-related competencies, Interpersonal Competencies and Management competencies which is involved with the performance of the IT employees and it also make them to become successful in their career. In order to attain the competitive position in the business field, every employee in the organization should involve in increasing the productivity and efficiency at the workplace. Similarly, the organization also have a challenging part in retaining the employees and motivating them to update themselves relevant to their specialization or key performance areas. Therefore, the competency mapping will be helpful for the researcher in identifying the expected skills of every individual with the actual skill set of the job. Based on the observed gaps, specific training and necessary steps to be taken to overcome the skill deficiency of the IT employees. The Sample survey was conducted from top Indian IT companies located in OMRChennai, such as Infosys, TCS, HCL, Wipro and Tech Mahindra based on the ranking and financial performance and the stock value of the respective concern in the year 2017 & 2018 the above IT sectors were chosen for the study. From a population of 2342 employees of which a sample of 952 employees taken for the study. The sampling is done among various job profiles in the IT companies. The sample data were analyzed using SPSS with the following statistical tools like One-way ANOVA and Multiple regression.
