Abstract
In recent years due to increased non- linear loads, the power quality of the supply is affected. It has raised a serious concern on the use of conventional transformers to meet this nonlinear load demand, where the life of transformer get reduced by about 50% .K-rating transformers can handle the non-linear loads without increasing the temperature limits within the transformer. Even the distribution losses can be reduced by using K-rating transformer. In this paper, design of a 250 kVA K-rating transformer and validation of total harmonic distortion in the current waveform is presented to handle the nonlinear load in industrial plants.
