Abstract
The species Chlamydia trachomatis is of great interest today for scientific researchers in the field of medical sciences, as it is the primary human pathogen. Chlamydia is similar in structure and chemical composition of bacteria, but do not have many metabolic properties required for self - reproduction. This article describes in detail their features: a mandatory intracellular host - dependent parasitism, unique cycle of development and its stage, forms of a new generation of microorganisms. The modern taxonomy of chlamydia is characterized. The important biological characteristics (the presence of latent and persistent flow) of chlamydial infection is considered.
