Abstract
Literature is considered as a credible source of authentic materials, it represents language within a certain cultural context and it is the way to derive some benefits for the students and give them knowledge and understanding. Besides, the measurement of students' language abilities, in language teaching, is achieved by teachers through tests, quizzes or more informal methods. It is used as a means to discover what learners know and can do at a certain stage of the learning process. Moreover, the most important question arises here is that, is it necessary to assess students' cultural awareness in literature? So, different views have been provided in the following article to show the relationship between literature and culture and the role of assessment in foreign language classrooms.
