ABSURDITY AS ONE OF THE MANIFESTATIONS OF MODERN HEADLINES

Abstract

In the article the media titles belonging to the group of absurd ones are identified by exploring the structural, semantic and typological features of the headlines and header complexes of news materials, which were published on the websites of the news agencies «Unian» and «Ukrinform». About 5000 news reports for December 2017 were considered. As a result of the analysis, it was found that 21% of the headlines and header complexes are absurd. Based on the analysis, they are grouped on the following features: «Too long names of journalistic materials that don't target the reader», «Unsuccessful combination of header complex's elements», «Adequacy violation as a means of attracting the reader's attention».
