Abstract
Article is devoted to research of genesis of number 'two' as a concept and means of its expression in the German and Ukrainian languages in comparison. Author's approach is based on understanding of primary binarity in the nature of quantitative units, and afterwards the number ‘one’ was formed out of a binary concept as a part of it. As a result of research the general proto-root ie. * kwa for determination of a whole consisting of two parts is reconstructed, also main ways of development of its further forms are deduced. In addition, the author simulated a semantic tree of LSG of number ‘2’, common to both languages, which shows evolution of meanings of derivative lexemes and morphemes.
