THE QUALITY OF SLEEP IN PATIENTS WITH CKD UNDERGOING HEMODIALYSIS

Abstract

The aim of study was to determine the quality of sleep and the quality of life in patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. This study included 70 patients undergoing hemodialysis (mean age 48,74+1,51 years, mean duration of dialysis 41,55+4,51 months). Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Quality of life was measured using questionnaire SF–36. Results. 41 (58,57%) patients with a global PSQI score >5 were considered as a “bad sleeper”. Poor sleep was associated with age (r 0,24, p <0,05), high BMI(r 0,27, p <0,05), low diuresis (r 0,25, p <0,05), increase interdialytic weight gain (r 0,26, p <0,05). There was relationship between the poor sleep and low scores of all scales SF–36. Conclusions. Sleep disorders are common among patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. Poor sleep has a negative impact on quality of life.
