Abstract

The standardization of the European national drinking water rules requires the common use of the European standards from DIN EN 878 to DIN EN 14369. In DIN EN 12671 the generation of chlorine dioxide for human application is described. There are three procedures for generating the pure chlorine dioxide solutions. For the generation of chlorine dioxide solutions which is poor in byproducts from the hydrochloric acid ? chlorite procedure or from the chlorine ? chlorite procedure there must be a high concentration of the intermediate Cl2O2 to accelerate the reaction to ClO2 and Cl?. The generation of chlorine dioxide by the reaction of sodium peroxodisulphate with sodium chlorite solutions results in more stable chlorine dioxide solutions in a pH-neutral milieu.
