Abstract
A retrospective descriptive study was conducted in the from November 2016 to August 2017, in order to determine the main risk factors that cause the cerebrovascular diseases in the Basic Health Unit of Pedras municipality Matões do Norte Maranhão, Brazil. The studied universe was 218 patients aged 50 years and over. The source of data collection was a tab designed by the author through the review of individual and family medical records. The variables were studied: age, sex, race, family history of CVD, modifiable risk factors and the association of risk factors. The age group from 70 to 79 years and the male sex, as well as miscegenation in patients, the main modifiable risk factors were arterial hypertension and smoking, 40.3 % presented 3 or more risk factors. Conclusions and recommendations are issued.
