Nursing actions in the management of patients with suicidal behavior

Abstract
A prospective descriptive research was carried out with the purpose of informing the actions of nursing in the management of the patient with suicidal behavior in the "Luis Ramírez López" Psychiatric Hospital of Guantánamo from January to April of 2016. The variables were studied: age, sex, and others of interest in this research. For the collection of the primary data, the clinical records, charge sheets and the observation were also used. The universe consisted of the total number of patients treated in this period and the sample consisted of 30 patients. The results obtained were the support for the proposed system of actions aimed at the prevention of suicidal behavior and are reflected in the annexes. The age between 15 and 25 years, with the female sex were remarkable. The most frequently used method in the suicide attempt was ingestion of psychoactive drugs, nursing care was applied to 100 % of the cases. The knowledge acquired after conducting this research was satisfactory for all nursing staff and the mental health team.
