Quality of life for elementary school teachers who work in more than one shift in public schools in the municipal Ipojuca / PE, Brazil

Abstract

In recent decades, with the enthusiasm of postmodernism and the development of globalization, changes egalitarian reforms established in educational environments and new educational standards, which possibly were the result of working conditions established by teachers, seems to have generated changes in the teaching profession, consecutively, in the quality of life. Aim of this study was to assess quality of life in primary school teachers who work in more than one shift in public schools in the municipal Ipojuca / PE, Brazil. Were assessed by the Quality of Life Inventory Lipp, 46 elementary school teachers were divided into two groups: a) teachers who work in just one turn (TEACHERS - 1TURNO), with n = 16, b) teachers who work in more than one turn (TEACHERS -> 1 TURNO), with n = 30. The data were smoothed by the Fisher exact test, p <0.05 and expressed in percentage. The teachers who work in more than 1 turn higher percentages in the social aspect (20.25%, p = 0.0305*), compared to teachers who work only one shift (9.09%). We conclude from this study that elementary school teachers who work in more than one shift showed failure in the social aspect, affecting the performance of the exercises in society, in the workplace, the family, the community and relationships with friends, compared to teachers who work in one shift.
