Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of methanolic extract of Solanum Xanthocarpum in albino rats. Materials and Methods: Methanolic extract in the dose of 100,200,400mg/kg and aspirin in the dose of 100mg/kg was administered orally in different groups of albino rats to study their effect on inflammation induced by carrageenan or a foreign body. Aspirin100mg/kg and extract 400mg/kg was administered to study their interaction. Results: Methanolic extract of fruits of solanum xanthocarpum produced significant anti-inflammatory activity in acute and subacute inflammation models and was comparable to that of aspirin. The extract also potentiated the anti-inflammatory action of aspirin. Conclusion: Methanolic extract of fruits of solanum xanthocarpum possess significant anti-inflammatory activity
