Abstract
The article discusses the activities of the Kaluga Diocese, aimed at organizing various kinds of theological schools in Kaluga Governorate, including the female diocesan school, which has trained hundreds of teachers for parishional and primary schools during its existence. The archival documents and materials (inspectors 'reports, teachers' characteristics, pupils ' memories), presented in the article, allow to see the specifics of the school, the content of education in it; the effectiveness of the pedagogical class and to understand the atmosphere of the institution aimed at spiritual and moral education. The generalized pedagogical experience in the article is of great interest to all interested in the history of national education.
