Abstract
To study prevalence of Extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) among institutionalized chronic psychotic patients.2. To study the various factors associated with presence of EPS.METHODOLOGY A total of 382 male and female patients hospitalized with psychotic symptoms and treated with neuroleptics were screened for evidence of EPS clinically.RESULTS A total of 42 patients, 24 males and 18 females, developed EPS within few days of initiation of neuroleptics. They were on both typical and atypical antipsychotics.CONCLUSION Prevalence of EPS was 11 all the patients were suffering from Schizophrenia and treated with oral neuroleptics.
