Abstract
This study is initiated to optimize the levels of parameters such as compression ratio, Injection pressure and pongamia pinnata biodiesel blend % of single cylinder direct injection variable compression ratio CI engine on the engine performance. Taguchi and ANOVA techniques have been used to find the optimum level and contribution of the parameters on the brake thermal efficiency and brake specific fuel consumption. The results infer that the compression ratio is the most dominant factor influencing the brake thermal efficiency followed by biodiesel blend % and injection pressure. It is observed that when the brake thermal efficiency is increased with the increase in compression ratio and bio diesel blend while the brake specific fuel consumption decreased with the increase in compression ratio and bio diesel blend.
