Abstract
Composite materials are being used in various engineering fields and have also found its applications in architectural design. However there is an adverse effect of the environment on the performance of the FRP composites. Thus the present study focuses on understanding the effect of increased fiber content on the tensile behaviour of glass/epoxy composites exposed to moister. Three set of fiber layers with a single fiber orientation is used to understand the material behaviour, 6 layers, 7 layers and 8 layers. A reduced tensile resistance is observed with increased fiber content. Plasticization has been observed in the fiber – matrix interface due to the moister absorption and stiffness degradation is observed in tensile strength.
