Abstract

The use of mathematical models in the experimental analysis of behavior has increased over the years, and they offer several advantages. Mathematical models represent the highest degree of approximation, they are use certain mathematical symbols to mark variables or original parameters. The ratio between independent variables and parameters is presented through logical mathematical relationships. Mathematical models offer the most opportunity to experiment, since they easily change the size of any parameter. Tool wear is often selected as the tool life criterion because it determines the diametric accuracy of machining, its stability and reliability. Tool wear in cutting process is produced by the contact and relative sliding between the cutting tool and the workpiece, and between the cutting tool and the chip under the extreme conditions of cutting area. Therefore, identification and mathematical definition of tool wear curves is of significant importance to keep under control the cutting process in general.
