Abstract
Medium strength (low carbon) Low-alloy steels are an attractive option for structural components in naval applications due to its low cost and high availability factors. Weld ability is the major concern for joining the structural components where it leads to micro structural changes, variation in mechanical properties and corrosion resistance when compared to a base metal. An attempt has been made to weld the base metal joints using fusion welding processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and applying Nano coat to the welded joint .Welds were characterized for metallography to carry out the micro structural studies using Optical Microscopy, hardness measurements were done using Vickers hardness tester. The tensile test was done by universal testing machine. This blend of Nano coating to the welded joint does enhance the mechanical and thermal properties of the specimen, thus providing a good yield than any other regular welded joints.
