Abstract

This research is an analysis of the impact of stock assets (shares) listed and classified in the sector of frequent consumption products of the food industry of the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) on the price and quotation index (CPI). Considering this sector as the most sensitive to the effects of variations in inflation and its impacts on the basic basket. Therefore, the objective of this article is to determine the extent to which each of the analyzed assets contributes to the performance of the CPI in the securities market. The study population is the actions of companies in the food industry that have demonstrated a stock market presence in the BMV for the last five full years (2013-2017), as well as the main indicator of the stock market in Mexico, the CPI. The research contemplates the highest possible content on the markets in the sexennium of the current federal government in Mexico (2013-2018); that is, 1,256 data and after the international financial crisis 2008-2009. The statistical results were treated through the statistical tool SPSS, version 21, showing that there is a significant degree of positive and statistically significant association between the CPI with each of the assets included in the model.
