ICT: NEW WAVE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING/TEACHING

The simultaneous impact of globalization, the spread of English and technological development transformed our learning and teaching English as a lingua franca. Hence, ICT and English have become the essential literacy skills of our time needed to improve the conditions of work with the fullest participation in the globalized society. Information Communication Technology (ICT) progresses have brought new scopes to revamp the language learning and teaching contexts. In recent days, ICT has widened new outlets and delivered new claims to language learners as well as teachers. The importance of learning tasks has moved towards the learners and this has greatly changed the characters of teachers. However, it should be recognized that contemporary language teachers regulate the quality of learning process and not ICT. This paper tries to emphasize the capabilities of ICT as an effective tool for foreign language teaching and the effects of this technology on second language learning.
