Abstract
Specific heat increases with the reduction of particle size having maximum shape effect for spherical nano particle. In this work, experiments are conducted to examine the improvement of specific heat in nano materials. Nano Alumina composites are developed by reinforcing with 3 amounts of Nano Alumina (i.e., 0.35, 0.7, and 1.4 volume %) to magnesium. Samples are sintered to a temperature of 600 - 6200C in the presence of the Argon gas flow with a pressure rate of 15L/min. Specific-heat measurements in the temperature range between 50-6000C revealed that the Cp values of nanometer - sized powders increased by increasing the reinforcement of nano alumina to magnesium. Also, as the particle size decreases the melting temperature decreases. The distribution of the granular sizes of compositions is considered into account that exists in any real nano material. The distribution of the grain sizes and shape are demonstrated which effect the specific heat of nano materials. The specific heat is observed to increase with the decrease in particle size, whereas in sintered nano particles it decreases with particle size.
