Abstract
In the present scenario increasing prices of crude petroleum products, depletion of oil sources, and increased concern towards environmental pollution have renewed attention in evolving and consuming eco-friendly lubricants derived from substitute sources. A bio-lubricant is renewable in nature, eco-friendly, non-toxic, and free from pollution. The non-edible oil based bio-lubricants have received significant attention owing to their notable better-quality tribological features. In the present work biolubricant prepared from gingelly (sesame) oil has been explored for its viability to be used in diesel engines. Experiments were conducted by using neat and esterified gingelly oil as a lubricant and its influence on the engine performance and emissions were studied and compared with the neat mineral oil lubricant. Experimental results indicate that performance of the engines slightly increases as well as the emissions will be reduced by using lubricants from vegetable oil sources.
