Abstract

The depletion of world petroleum reserves and the increased environmental concern have stimulated the search of alternative fuel which is to be environment friendly. Transesterified vegetable oil (biodiesel) are promising alternative fuel for diesel engines. The objective of this research is to study the performance and emission characteristics of single cylinder diesel engine fueled with Pumpkin Seed oil biodiesel with the influence of fuel injection pressure. Bio diesel was produced from Pumpkin Seed oil by transesterification process and used as fuel in diesel engine. The tests were conducted at full load at different injection pressures by means of adjusting injector spring tension. The fuels B10 (10% biodiesel +90% diesel), B20 (20% biodiesel+80% diesel), B30 (30% biodiesel+70% diesel) were used for the test. The engine performance and emission test results were compared with B0 (diesel). From the test results it was found that 210 bar injection pressure causes better performance and improved emissions characteristics for all fuels.
